The Continous Stirred Tank Reactor may designed with a downstream solids separation step for treatment of high solids, high FOG wastewater, or designed as a once through system for treatment of high solids waste (TSS >2%).
When treating wastewater, mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) concentration in the reactor is controlled by periodic wasting of biomass returned from the post-clarification step.
The process is simple to operate and maintain and has been found to provide very efficient anaerobic digestion of wastewater containing high concentrations of TSS and/or FOG.
This technology is utilized worldwide treating a variety of wastes including ice cream, potatoes and a co-mingled manure and thin stillage stream.
